Description
Columbid herpesvirus 1 is a member of Herpesviridae family, that cause diseases in a host of animals including humans. Columbid herpesvirus 1 has been shown to infect not only pigeons but owls, falcons, and hawks as well.
Juvenles succumb to the virus as a result of severe epithelial lesions in the pharynx, oesophagus and crop as a result of the co-infections. The body development of infected juveniles is also poor with poor plumage as well. Adults tend to show fewer overt symptoms but enlarged spleens and livers are commonly observed.
